I did a trial first with Kat and she put all my fears at ease. She wasn't all up in my face or overwhelming. Instead, I gave a rough idea of what I was thinking and she used her creative genius to make it a beautiful reality. On the day of the wedding, Kat and her assistant drove miles, went through a creek (!) in order to do the make-up of me and my bridesmaids in a ranch house. Then, as any insane bride like myself would do, I researched her a little more and quickly found that she was no ordinary makeup artist, but a pro with a huge amount of experience and knowledge. I decided to come out and do a trial with her and ended up having such a fun time with her and her precious puppies. I looked at > 20 makeup vendors portfolios and reviews, then asked some of them questions about timing for the day.
I ended up going with Kat, and I'm so glad she did. Her portfolio contains clients of many ethnic backgrounds, which was important to me, since the entire wedding party is Asian. When I did my trial with her, she really listened to what I was going for (not overly dramatic), and her hair was really great too. On the day of the wedding, she arrived promptly to the venue at 5AM(!), and she and Carla (hair) were able to finish doing hair and makeup for the bride, three bridesmaids, and two mothers in 3.5 hours. They both did an excellent job. I had them use my makeup. Everyone said I looked beautiful. The mothers (who are hardest to please) even liked their hair and makeup. The makeup also photographed well. Carla is a magician with hair too. My hair and makeup lasted the entire day, and I hardly needed touchups, except for the lips. Kat also provided a touchup kit, which was super helpful. Luckily, I didn't cry, so didn't have any major smudging issues. :)
